Colorado Staff Turnover Adds Pressure

Colorado Buffaloes' defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is leaving for the Denver Broncos, continuing a major staff turnover that has seen 77 years of NFL experience depart since March 2025.

The Buffaloes will have new offensive and defensive coordinators plus new position coaches for quarterback, tight ends, defensive line, and cornerbacks in 2026. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's departure is understandable given his struggles adapting to the college game, while Brennan Marion is expected to bring more creativity with his 'Go-Go offense.'

Under Livingston, Colorado's defense improved significantly in 2024, ranking 15th nationally in sacks and allowing just 11.5 points per game in the second half. Colorado promoted linebackers coach Chris Marve to replace Livingston, who has experience calling defenses. The staff changes add pressure on coordinators to prepare an almost entirely new team for a challenging opening stretch.
