Flamengo sacks former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis after 8-0 win

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis was sacked by Flamengo just hours after the club's 8‑0 win, ending a 100‑match spell that yielded seven trophies.

Flamengo announced the dismissal of Filipe Luis at 00:59 local time, hours after the club secured an 8‑0 victory in the second leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi‑final. The 40‑year‑old former Chelsea defender had guided the club to seven titles in 100 matches, including the 2025 Copa Libertadores and multiple domestic honours.

Luis, who made 333 appearances for Atlético Madrid and won the Premier League with José Mourinho’s Chelsea in 2015, also led Flamengo’s youth sides to league titles and became the ninth coach to win the Copa Libertadores as both player and manager.
