Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, a two-time All-American, believes that the best defender should be judged by their ability to affect the game, not by their position. "At the end of the day it's who's the best defender? It's not positional value, it's who affects the game," Downs said during his media availability.
Downs' versatility allows him to play multiple positions, which he sees as a valuable asset. "Being able to play multiple positions is what makes people useful, it makes people special," he stated, comparing his game to Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori, who had a significant impact on last season's championship team despite being a second-round pick.
