Commanders agree to new two-year deal with OL Nick Allegretti — and more

Commanders agree to new two-year deal with OL Nick Allegretti

The Commanders have struck a new deal with one of their offensive linemen.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Washington has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with center Nick Allegretti.

Allegretti was not a pending free agent, as he had one year left on his contract. He's now signed through 2027.

Allegretti, 29, has been with Washington since 2024. After starting all 17 games for the Commanders in 2024, he played 16 with four starts in 2025. But he started the last two games for the club at center, which is a position the Commanders now need to replace after the release of Tyler Biadasz.

In all, Allegretti has appeared in 107 career games with 34 starts since the Chiefs selected him in the seventh round of the 2019 draft.

Bears insider sets record straight about Gervon Dexter trade rumors

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of free agency next week, but the trade market is heating up just one week out, and the Bears have been a hot topic of conversation. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, wide receiver DJ Moore and quarterback Tyson Bagent have been mentioned as potential trade options for Chicago.

Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, who's entering the final year of his rookie contract, was reportedly garnering trade interest with teams inquiring about his availability. But Bears insider Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune clarified Dexter trade rumors, saying that Chicago has no intention of trading the former second-round defensive tackle.

"They're not taking (trade) calls on him," Biggs said on 104.3 The Score on Monday. "They're not making calls on him...I'm reporting nothing is happening on that... They've got two defensive tackles under contract, they're not looking to move one," Biggs said. "Gervon Dexter will be with the Bears next season."

Dexter, 24, started all 17 games with the Bears last season, where he totaled 44 tackles, including six tackles for loss, six sacks, 11 QB hits and two fumble recoveries.

Chicago's biggest need this offseason is defensive tackle, where Dexter and Jarrett are the only players under contract. There's uncertainty about their futures beyond 2026, with Dexter hitting free agency and Jarrett getting up there in age. But there's a bigger need for a short-term solution for 2026, which is why trading Dexter wouldn't make sense for the Bears. They need to add defensive tackles, not get rid of them.

Unexpected Patriots player reportedly generating free agency buzz

There's been plenty of buzz surrounding the New England Patriots at the NFL combine, and one offensive lineman has been getting a chunk of it. Backup tackle Vederian Lowe, who filled in for Will Campbell for four games in 2025, has been a "popular name at the combine," according to MassLive's Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian.

The Patriots are hoping to re-sign Lowe, a pending free agent, but they could face some competition for his services. Despite serving as a reserve offensive tackle, Lowe showed real growth in New England last season. He had a solid run during his four-game stretch after Campbell suffered an MCL sprain late in the season.

Daniels and Guregian wrote:

"According to a source, the Patriots want to re-sign Lowe. However, they’ll have competition for the veteran. Lowe was a popular name at the Combine for teams looking for a backup left tackle."

The Patriots have worked hard to improve their offensive line depth. Losing a reliable veteran like Lowe would create a void that they would have to fill behind Campbell. There is hope for continuity by keeping Lowe and continuing to improve the depth for the 2026 season.

But left tackles are coveted in the NFL, and other teams could drive up the market enough to price the Patriots out.

Arsenal Interest Rebuffed as Corinthians Hold Firm on Matheuzinho

Arsenal’s long range scouting network has once again led them to South America. Yet, as reported by RTIESPORTE.COM, Corinthians have drawn a clear line regarding right back Matheuzinho, rejecting two offers including one from the Premier League.

The 25 year old has emerged as a central figure under Dorival Júnior. According to the report, Marcelo Paz believes “It is not the right time to negotiate the defender.”, with the club viewing him as a structural pillar rather than a tradable asset. Arsenal have monitored him since last season, but admiration alone does not shift negotiating positions.

Contract Strength and Internal Priority

Matheuzinho’s contract runs until December 2028. That timeframe alters the dynamic significantly. Corinthians hold leverage, reinforced by a release clause of 100 million euros for international clubs and 50 million euros domestically.

RTIESPORTE.COM outline that the club purchased 60 percent of his economic rights in 2024 for 4 million euros from Flamengo. Since then, he has become a dressing room reference point, described as one of the principal leaders within the squad.

With a congested calendar and Copa Libertadores ambitions, stability has become policy. The report indicates that even proposals offering higher wages abroad have not tempted the player. Corinthians are planning a meeting to discuss salary appreciation and to reinforce the sporting project around him.

Arsenal’s Calculated Watch

For Arsenal, this is familiar territory. Monitoring does not equal immediate escalation. The club have built a reputation for patience, identifying profiles that fit technical and developmental frameworks.

Matheuzinho’s versatility and leadership appeal. Yet with Corinthians signalling that negotiations would only begin at figures approaching the international clause, the pathway is narrow.

At present, the message from São Paulo is unambiguous. Matheuzinho remains central to Dorival Júnior’s plans, and Corinthians have little appetite for compromise.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Arsenal supporters, this report reads as both frustrating and encouraging. Frustrating because the profile is compelling. A 25 year old right back with leadership credentials and Libertadores ambition suggests resilience and maturity. Encouraging because it confirms the club’s recruitment radar remains expansive and proactive.

Fans understand that Arsenal rarely rush negotiations where leverage is limited. A 100 million euro clause places Corinthians in command. Even so, the knowledge that the player has not pushed for a move adds nuance. Arsenal supporters tend to favour targets who demonstrate clarity of intent.

There is also strategic patience to consider. If Arsenal view Matheuzinho as long term depth rather than immediate transformation, timing matters. The club’s hierarchy will not be drawn into inflated bidding for symbolic victories.

Supporters will watch closely. South American recruitment has yielded success before. Whether this evolves into a concrete approach may depend less on desire and more on opportunity.
