Texas A&M baseball suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of a red‑hot UCLA team during the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, but the Aggies still closed the week with a strong 3–1 record. The stretch included two run‑rule victories and a gritty late‑night win over Arizona State on Sunday, reinforcing that this group has the depth to withstand early adversity.
The Aggies sit at 10–1 despite playing only two games at full health. Outfielder Wesley Jordan opened the season on a tear, posting a .474/.665/.947 slash line across six games before suffering an injury. Infielder Chris Hacopian was equally impressive, hitting .455/.538/.727 in his first three games before a lingering back issue resurfaced. He homered in his first game back, but after taking an aggressive swing in his second at‑bat, he appeared to strain the area again. Head coach Michael Earley removed him from the lineup for the remainder of the weekend out of caution.
In their absence, Texas A&M has relied on a committee approach while the coaching staff experiments with different lineup combinations to identify who can step up. The results have been mixed, with several players showing both promising flashes and inconsistent moments. However, the Aggies are getting standout performances from freshmen Nico Partida and Boston Kellner, who have delivered mature, veteran‑like at‑bats and provided stability during a stretch where the roster has been in flux.
Even while undermanned, Texas A&M handled its toughest slate of the season to this point and looked like a legitimately solid team. There are still questions to answer, but the Aggies appear far more complete than they did at this time last year, when they sat at 6–4 with multiple mid‑major losses on the record. This season’s group has shown improved depth, steadier defense, and more competitive at‑bats across the board.
