New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey essentially confirmed at the 2026 NFL combine that he'll apply the franchise or transition tag on running back Breece Hall if they're unable to agree to terms on an extension with the pending free agent.
Both the franchise ($14.5 million) and transition ($11.7 million) tag would allow Hall to negotiate an offer sheet with other teams. The Jets would then possess the right to match that contract and retain him.
Jets Wire has identified three NFL teams that may sign Hall to an offer sheet if he's tagged by the Jets.
Tennessee Titans
Former Jets head coach Robert Saleh is now leading the Tennessee Titans. The Titans possess the most cap space in the NFL and have a potential need at running back. Pairing Hall with young quarterback Cam Ward may be a tempting proposition for Saleh.
Arizona Cardinals
Former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. With Kyler Murray likely departing this offseason, the Cardinals will field a run-heavy offense in 2026. James Conner is an aging asset, and Trey Benson disappointed in 2025.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have roughly $73.6 million in cap space. They are trying to surround Jayden Daniels with more talent and fellow running back Brian Robinson Jr. is a pending free agent. Hall would transform the Commanders' offense.
