The Super Eagles coach breaks his silence on the OM situation
Nigeria: Éric Chelle finally responds to OM rumors
Linked with replacing Roberto De Zerbi on the OM bench, Éric Chelle ultimately saw Habib Beye take the job. The Nigeria head coach has finally broken his silence regarding the rumors.
It was ultimately Habib Beye who was named as the new OM manager. Éric Chelle’s name came up several times. Still under contract with Nigeria, the coach confirmed that he was indeed looking to take the next step in his career, but never had any direct contact with the Marseille management.
"I had no contact whatsoever with OM's management. I signed with an agency to progress and develop as a coach. My agents decided to sound out certain clubs in Europe, particularly in France. At that time, OM were looking for a coach. My agency reached out to the club to suggest me. That’s all that happened. Shortlist or not, I had no contact. You’d have to ask my agent whether I was on a list or not. Since I’m from the region, I talked with some friends who asked if I’d be interested. I’m an OM supporter, so if you ask me if I’d like it, of course. But I never asked for any public communication about it. With social media, it just blew up." he revealed.
