The Los Angeles Dodgers already made every MLB fan that wasn’t their own groan this offseason when they landed Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz to add to their already stacked roster. However, they have a chance at the trade deadline to make everyone lose their minds.
Fansided’s Mark Powell proposes if the Detroit Tigers are worse than .500 by August 1st, they could make a deal that everyone’s predicting to happen, sending Tarik Skubal to Los Angeles.
“Detroit signed Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander over the last two weeks. In doing so, the Tigers tried to appease their fanbase. Scott Harris is willing to go on one last run with Skubal, even if it means losing draft capital. And I really can't blame them! The Tigers are too good to trade Skubal for prospects, and they'd never receive full value for him anyway. Instead, they'll likely settle for a compensatory pick. However, if the Tigers are hovering around .500 at the deadline, which isn't out of the realm of possibility, expect the Dodgers to be the favorites. No, LA doesn't need Skubal, but adding the best pitcher in baseball for a World Series pitch is incredibly enticing. At that point. Skubal won't be all that expensive,” Powell wrote.
In 2025, Skubal won his second Cy Young in a row, finishing with a 13-6 record, a 2.21 ERA, 241 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.891 in 195 innings pitched. He would become the ace of an already loaded rotation, and probably would give the Dodgers the best rotation in MLB history.
Skubal is projected to receive an eight-year, $300 million deal after this season, so he could be a rental for the Dodgers. However, with their love of deferrals, they could find themselves keeping him long-term as well.
Dodgers fans better hope and pray that the Tigers’ season goes up in flames, and every other MLB fan better hope the opposite.
