Rams hire former WR Robert Woods as assistant coach for 2026

Former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods retired from the NFL last week, signing a one-day contract with the team to make it official. He won’t be without a job in 2026, though. He’s already taking on a new role, this time as a coach.

The Rams announced their staff for 2026, and Woods has been hired as the team’s assistant wide receivers coach. It’s his first opportunity to coach, taking on this new venture less than a week after retiring as a player.

Woods has always been a favorite in Los Angeles, so it’s fitting that his first job will be with the team that signed him as a free agent in 2017. He’s from Gardena, Calif., went to USC and played five years with the Rams, winning one Super Bowl.

He played for Los Angeles from 2017-2021, winning a ring in his final season with the team. Woods was traded to the Titans in 2022 and finished his career with the Texans in 2023 and 2024. He did not play this past season after being cut by the Steelers in August.

Woods, 33, finished his NFL career with 367 catches, 4,626 yards and 23 touchdown catches, playing 12 seasons in the league after being a second-round pick by the Bills in 2013.
