Reading FC's youth development has struggled this season, resulting in a drastically reduced shortlist for the 2025/26 Rookie of the Season award. Irish full-back John Ryan is one of the two remaining candidates.

After a strong showing in 2023/24 with 13 nominees, Reading's first-team opportunities for under-22s have dropped significantly this season under manager Leam Richardson. Consequently, only two players remain on the shortlist.

John Ryan has been named as one of the nominees. The 22-year-old left-back made five starts this season, impressing against West Ham United's under-21s and MK Dons. However, his campaign was curtailed by a serious injury in December. mwafrika.life
