Despite a stellar performance from Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara, who held Cincinnati scoreless for eight innings and allowed just two hits, the Reds found their offensive spark in the ninth. After Matt McLain's double with one out in the ninth and a walk to Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati scored twice to tie the game.
The Reds then exploded for four runs in the 10th inning to secure the victory. McLain had a strong game with two doubles and was named the Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game. Andrew Abbott pitched 5.1 innings for Cincinnati, allowing two runs, while Jose Franco tossed two hitless, scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
