Masters Chair Calls for Golf Ball Distance Limits

In his annual State of the Masters address, Ridley said the governing bodies must enforce a new rule that could cut elite players’ drives by 15 yards, starting January 1, 2030. He highlighted the 325‑yard drives seen in practice and noted Augusta’s course has already been lengthened 440 yards since 2002.

Ridley emphasized that protecting Augusta is not the sole motive; many iconic courses lack the resources to adjust. He pledged to make changes as needed to keep the game fair and playable.
