Joe Schoen Demoted to Scouting Role as Dawn Aponte Takes Over Giants Operations

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen has been shifted to oversee the scouting department, while Dawn Aponte, the new senior VP of football operations, reports directly to head coach John Harbaugh.

In a reshuffle announced by the Giants, Joe Schoen will now run the franchise’s scouting staff and department, a role that places him below the new senior VP of football operations, Dawn Aponte. Aponte, who replaces Kevin Abrams, reports to head coach John Harbaugh and is responsible for strategic planning, analytics, salary‑cap management, player contracts, compliance and coordination with college and pro personnel.

Harbaugh has taken final say on personnel decisions, with Aponte acting as his direct liaison to ownership. Schoen’s duties are now largely limited to scouting, while Harbaugh retains the authority to make the final call on free‑agency and draft moves.
