Fissette Blames Coaching Fit for Swiatek’s Struggles

Wim Fissette said Iga Swiatek was never happy under his guidance, blaming a mismatch in coaching style, language barriers and team structure for her recent losses.

Fissette said Swiatek was never satisfied from the start, citing differences in coaching approach, a language barrier and a team structure that already included a psychologist. He admitted the problems were known to the team early on and that Swiatek’s early exit from the Miami Open was a result of these tensions. In the next tournament, the Polish star will face Magdalena Frech at the Charleston Open on April 5, with new coach Francisco Roig by her side as she looks to regain momentum. Fissette, who finished a 64‑17 season with Swiatek, will soon return to coaching Belgium in the Billie Jean King Cup.
