The Braves will rely on an unlikely starter as Ray Kerr makes his first career postseason appearance as the opener in Thursday's winner-take-all Game 3 against the Phillies. The 32-year-old lefty, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024, has posted a 1.47 ERA in nine games with Atlanta since being recalled on Aug. 16. Right-hander Grant Holmes (10-6, 3.44) is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind Kerr.
Veteran right-hander Aaron Nola will start for the Phillies, who beat Atlanta 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday to force the decisive game. Nola was 7-12 with a 4.67 ERA in the regular season. The Braves won the season series against Philadelphia 11-8, with Kerr making two appearances against the Phillies in September, including a three-inning outing on Sept. 13. blablasex.es
