Fields Could Return to NY with Giants

Published September 27, 2026 · Updated September 27, 2026 · NBC Sports

Justin Fields, who was traded from the Jets to the Chiefs, has emerged as a potential option for the Giants, who are expected to make a move as soon as Monday.

The Giants are considering all options at quarterback following starter Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee surgery. Fields, who has been mentioned multiple times by reporters, could serve as either a backup for Jameis Winston or someone who could eventually supplant him.

Fields has a two-year, $40 million contract with $10 million guaranteed for 2026. The Chiefs are paying $3 million of that while the Jets cover $7 million. With Patrick Mahomes looking healthy, the Chiefs could recoup their 2027 sixth-round pick and unload the rest of Fields's 2026 salary if they elevate rookie Garrett Nussmeier to the QB2 role. somethingsdifferent.biz
