Rohit Sharma cleared for IND vs AFG ODIs

Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have been cleared by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Tuesday to take part in the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan. While the Hitman suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2026, Hardik was down with a back injury, forcing the duo to check into the CoE in Bengaluru and get their fitness evaluated in order to get a green signal to take part in the next series. Both Pandya and Sharma were included in the squad, but their participation was subject to fitness previously. Read more here.

Ruturaj Gaikwad shines

Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t have a great IPL 2026. However, when it comes to 50-over cricket, there are hardly many batters as consistent as him. With not many middle-order bats in the side, Gaikwad instantly got a chance in the series opener. He scored 101 runs off 114 deliveries, striking 6 fours and 3 sixes in the game against Sri Lanka A. Gaikwad joined the likes of Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir in the list for most List-A centuries among Indians. Read more here.

Ben Stokes to retire?

England cricket team captain Ben Stokes might not just be forced to step down as captain following the night-club incident during Ashes 2025, but may also have to retire from international cricket following the incident. England captain Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson are being investigated by the ECB following an incident at a London nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning, shortly after England’s 115-run win over New Zealand at Lord’s. As per the report, a senior correspondent claimed that Stokes had been told that he should walk away instead of facing disciplinary action. Read more here.

Sooryavanshi fails on India A debut

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi managed to score just 14 runs off 12 balls on his India A debut. Despite amassing over 700 runs in IPL 2026, and emerging as the winner of the Orange Cap, the 15-year-old failed to do well in the first game of the tri-series. Vaibhav, who has witnessed a meteoric rise over the last couple of years, emerged as the Orange Cap winner 776 runs in IPL 2026. He also surpassed Chris Gaye’s record for scoring the most sixes in an IPL season. He played a key role in India’s triumph in the U19 World Cup, having slammed a century in the final. Siraj rested

Although Mohammed Siraj is known as a workhorse in Indian cricket, even he deserves some rest. He will never back down from any challenge, but the pace machine needs to be managed carefully and that’s what the BCCI is doing now. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has allowed him some respite after a fatiguing IPL season. Siraj, who was initially part of India’s T20I squad for the seven-T20I UK tour, has been replaced by Prasidh Krishna due to a workload management call. Read more here.

Bangladesh create history

Bangladesh cricket team defeated Australia by 86 runs via the DLS method to clinch their first-ever victory against the opposition at home. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and co. made most of the rain-hit game to get an upper hand against the Aussies, making sure that they went 1-0 up in the series. After Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya ruled out of Afghanistan ODI series

Cleared to play just hours ago, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya was on Wednesday ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan after picking up a fresh quadriceps strain.

Pandya was at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to get clearance for his back spasm injury which he sustained in the IPL while playing for the Mumbai Indians.

It is learnt that the new injury could be a result of him bowling the full quota of 10 overs at the CoE during the assessment.

The ODI series against Afghanistan begins on Saturday at Dharamsala followed by games in Lucknow and Chennai on June 17 and 20 respectively.

“With three weeks for recovery, there is absolutely no chance of him playing the ODI series as his rehabilitation will not be complete,” said a BCCI source.

Pandya had missed a few games in the IPL for MI but returned for the team’s final match against Rajasthan Royals on May 24.

The latest injury setback to the 32-year-old all-rounder comes at a time when he is being pushed towards playing more ODI cricket with next year’s ODI World Cup in mind.

A left ankle injury to Pandya in the 2023 ODI World Cup during a first-round clash against Bangladesh had altered the team’s balance.

Pandya continues to remain integral to India’s plans for the mega event in 2027 in South Africa.

In order to keep him match-fit for the immediate ODI assignments ahead — three each against Afghanistan and England next month — Pandya was dropped from the Indian T20 side despite being a part of two World Cup-winning campaigns.

“He is a part of the one-day squad right now in (the) Afghanistan (series). Like (Jasprit) Bumrah, if we can get him playing well and keep him fit for one-day cricket – I don’t think he’s played one-day cricket for a while – that is the main objective,” chairman of selection committee Ajit Agarkar had told reporters last week.

“We can always bring him back. So, there will be a little bit of rest and rotation with regards to T20 (in Pandya’s case),” he had asserted.

Ben Stokes at Career Crossroads After Nightclub Episode

England skipper Ben Stokes is likely to step down as captain and could also call time on his international career following the nightclub incident involving him and Gus Atkinson.

Two days ago, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched an inquiry into Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson over their involvement in a nightclub incident that breached team protocols. The incident took place after England’s 115-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s.

An ECB statement read: “The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the conclusion of the first Men’s Test against New Zealand. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning when an incident took place. We are currently seeking further information, and an announcement regarding the squad for the second Test will be made in due course. The Cricket Regulator has been informed and we will provide a further update when possible.”

A section of the British media believes that Stokes is likely not only to relinquish the captaincy but also to announce his retirement from international cricket.

The second Test begins on 17 June, and there is a cloud of doubt over the participation of both Stokes and Atkinson in the match. The ECB is likely to announce the squad once the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, Stokes’ decision is eagerly awaited.

A 15-year international career, one that has seen more highs than lows, now hangs in the balance.
