Gautam Gambhir identifies Shivang Kumar as future all-round option provides special advice to SRH spinner

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has identified Sunrisers Hyderabad wrist-spinner Shivang Kumar as a promising spin-bowling all-rounder for the future. The team management has been impressed by his ability to contribute with both bat and ball during India's training sessions.
The 24-year-old recently worked as a net bowler for the Indian team during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. The opportunity came shortly after his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2026 season and his performances in the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL).
India Is Looking for That Combination - Shivang Kumar Reveals Gautam Gambhir's Advice
Speaking to RevSportz, Shivang Kumar revealed that Gautam Gambhir and spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule encouraged him to improve his all-round skills. The youngster said both coaches believe his ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him a valuable prospect.
"To me, Gautam sir said that, 'Shivang, you are a good combination of chinaman bowling and batting. You work hard, you work on your batting, and you are a chinaman bowler, so you have to improve yourself more.'
"And the exact same thing, Sairaj sir also told me that, 'You have to do very well in batting because you are a good combination, and India is looking for that combination.'"
The 24-year-old is a late entrant to top-level domestic cricket. He has played only seven matches for Madhya Pradesh and is yet to make his first-class debut. Despite his limited experience, his recent performances have helped him earn recognition from both IPL and national team coaches.
Kuldeep Yadav Shared His Experience and Cleared My Doubts - Shivang Kumar
Shivang Kumar praised Kuldeep Yadav for helping him during his early stages as a professional cricketer. The young spinner said that Kuldeep shared his experiences and guided him through both cricket-related and personal challenges.
"Whatever doubts I had in life and even in cricket, I talked to him (Kuldeep) about those. And he explained them to me very well and shared his own experience of playing cricket for so many years."
The 24-year-old began his cricket journey mainly as a batter before developing his wrist-spin. He was spotted through local T20 tournaments and went on to make his T20 and List A debuts for Madhya Pradesh in 2025.
The MP League Gives Young Players Great Exposure - Shivang Kumar
Shivang Kumar said that the Madhya Pradesh League has been helping young players prepare for higher levels of cricket. The all-rounder said that the tournament provided valuable exposure and created an environment similar to major competitions.
"First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to the MP League for providing us, the players, with such a good platform. It's a very good exposure before moving to leagues like the IPL. The experience has been very good because the MPL was excellent last time as well.
"The crowd was very big. We also had huge crowds in Gwalior during the last MPL, so I didn't feel much difference. I was very comfortable while bowling there.
"The youngsters have responded very positively. New players are coming in, they are doing well, and they are bringing a good combination to the league. There is healthy competition."
Shivang first caught the attention of scouts through the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Madhya Pradesh League. His performances earned him an IPL opportunity with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he played 13 matches during the 2026 season and picked up nine wickets.
USA’s Chris Richards becomes first since FIFA World Cup 1966 to achieve 100% passing accuracy
California [US], June 13 (ANI): United States defender Chris Richards has etched his name into the record books after completing 83 out of 83 passes against Paraguay in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener on Friday (local time), marking the highest number of passes completed with 100 per cent accuracy by any player in a World Cup match since 1966, according to ESPN Insights.
Richards achieved the rare feat during the United States’ dominant 4-1 victory over Paraguay, where the hosts delivered a commanding all-around performance at SoFi Stadium.
The centre-back was flawless in possession throughout the match, playing a key role in the USA’s build-up play while maintaining complete passing accuracy across the full game.
Meanwhile, United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino has provided an injury update on Christian Pulisic, saying the team chose not to take any risks during the second half after the 27-year-old suffered a kick to his calf during the clash against Paraguay.
Pochettino said Pulisic was struck on the calf during the game and subsequently began to feel tightness, prompting the decision to withdraw him at half-time as a precaution, according to The Athletic.
“We didn’t want to take any risks," Pochettino said, explaining the decision to withdraw Pulisic at half-time during the FIFA World Cup 2026 clash, as quoted by The Athletic.
Coming to the match, Folarin Balogun scored twice, while Pulisic delivered a commanding display as United States started their World Cup on a winning note.
Constantly troubling the Paraguayan defence and playing a key role in multiple attacking moves as the hosts controlled proceedings from the start.
The USA took an early lead in the 7th minute when Pulisic split the defence with a brilliant pass to Weston McKennie, which ultimately resulted in Damian Bobadilla turning the ball into his own net. Balogun then doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, finishing a precise cross from Pulisic.
The forward added his second goal deep into stoppage time (90+8′), dribbling past two defenders before sealing a comfortable win for the hosts, who were in full control throughout the match.
Paraguay briefly reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute through Mauricio Magalhães, but failed to mount a sustained comeback against a dominant US side.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino opted to rest Pulisic at half-time, replacing him with Sebastian Berhalter, as the USA managed their squad with an eye on a long tournament ahead.
Late in the match, Gio Reyna added further gloss to the scoreline with a stunning strike from distance, finding the top corner to cap off an emphatic opening win for the hosts.
In another Group fixture, Canada began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Cyle Larin scoring a late equaliser in the 78th minute to rescue a point.
The United States will next face their upcoming Group opponent in Seattle, while Canada will take on Qatar in their next match in Vancouver. (ANI)

Harshit Rana to join Team India before IND vs AFG 3rd ODI, likely to replace Hardik Pandya
India cricket team star Harshit Rana is most likely to make his comeback in the IND vs AFG 3rd ODI after spending months on the sidelines. The all-rounder, who went under the knife earlier this year due to a knee injury, missed the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 as his recovery timeline was slated to be at least 3-4 months. While Rana was named as a part of the squad for the T20Is against Ireland and England, he now could return earlier than expected, with the team management asking him to join the camp before the third and final ODI against Afghanistan.
Harshit Rana to replace Hardik Pandya for IND vs AFG 3rd ODI?
As per the Times of India, the team management wanted Harshit to join the Team India camp early on in the series. However, they decided against it as they felt that he needed more practice at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). The report states that the pacer from Delhi has been bowling 9-10 overs everyday and is also working hard on his batting. Rana is likely to obtain fitness clearance by June 17 and join the Indian team before the IND vs AFG 3rd ODI in Chennai.
“The team management offered Harshit the opportunity to join the team earlier in the series, but it was decided that he needed more practice at the CoE. He has been bowling nine to ten overs every day and has been able to maintain his intensity. He is also working very hard on his batting. He will most likely be officially cleared by the CoE on June 17 and will travel to Chennai immediately,” a BCCI source told the publication.

The move to ask Rana to join the team earlier than expected is an attempt of the selectors and the team management to groom him as a back-up pace all-rounder absence along with Nitish Kumar Reddy. Hardik Pandya, who is India’s premier all-rounder, won’t take part in the IND vs AFG ODI series as he suffered a quadrecips injury just a day after he obtained fitness clearance from the BCCI’s CoE. The report states that the selectors won’t name any replacement for Pandya in the series, which means NKR is the go-to option for the first two ODIs while Rana could make his comeback in the 3rd.
