Chelsea Injury Update Ahead of Arsenal Clash
Chelsea approach another pivotal London derby with uncertainty hanging over key names. As preparations continue for the trip to the Emirates Stadium, the squad list tells a story of caution, careful management and hope that timely returns can steady momentum in the Premier League. Suspension, muscle strains and long term recoveries are shaping the narrative around Chelsea at a crucial point in the season.
Estevao Fitness Concern Grows
One of the most immediate worries for Chelsea centres on Estevao. The Brazilian attacker was absent from the matchday squad against Burnley, prompting concern among supporters. The explanation arrived swiftly.
“Unfortunately yesterday in the training session, he felt awareness in his hamstring,” the Blues head coach said prior to the Burnley game.
“At the moment we are scanning it to make sure it’s nothing too serious but he’s unavailable for today’s game and we will see from there.”
After the draw, the update remained cautious. “And with Estevao, we’re doing our assessments and scans on him now.”
For Chelsea, the timing is awkward. A hamstring issue can be unpredictable, particularly for a player whose game relies on acceleration and direct running. His availability for Arsenal remains unclear, and his potential absence would narrow attacking options at a decisive moment.
Reece James Boost Before Derby
In brighter news for Chelsea, captain Reece James appears set to feature. Having recently returned to Premier League action, he was withdrawn late against Burnley, prompting initial anxiety.

Rosenior moved quickly to calm fears. “Reece, it was just, honestly, he’s so important to us as the captain, as the world class player that he is.
“Any sign of fatigue with him, I want to get him off the pitch. I need him for Arsenal. He should be absolutely fine.”
James’ leadership and technical authority are central to Chelsea’s balance. His presence at right back offers defensive solidity and attacking thrust, qualities that will be required against Arsenal’s wide threats.
Cucurella and Defensive Adjustments
Marc Cucurella remains sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury just before half time in the Leeds game. The left back has missed recent fixtures, including matches against Hull and Burnley.
“I can’t give an exact timeframe on Marc,” Rosenior admitted.
“He suffered a hamstring injury just before half time in the Leeds game. It’s a real shame because he’s an outstanding player, and one of the best left backs in the world.
“It’s a shame not to have Marc available but we have Jorrel and we have Malo who can play on that side, so we have really good players that can cover.
“Of course, the sooner Marc gets back, the better.”
Chelsea must therefore rely on squad depth, testing adaptability during a demanding run of fixtures.
Long Term Absentees and Recovery Path
Elsewhere, Jamie Gittens faces an extended spell out. “Jamie is looking a little bit more long term,” said Rosenior. “That’s a real shame for him as, obviously, I’ve not worked with him for too long, but I know about his career and what an outstanding player he is.
“So that’s going to be a big miss for us.”
Dario Essugo has also suffered a setback. “Dario has picked up a really unfortunate injury. He slipped in training, and he’s going to be out for a while,” Rosenior revealed.
Levi Colwill continues rehabilitation from a serious knee injury. “Yes he could but it’s step by step and I don’t want to make promises that I can’t keep,” the Chelsea head coach revealed.
For Chelsea, the weeks ahead will demand resilience. Fitness updates may shape selection, but clarity, patience and depth will determine how effectively this squad navigates a defining stretch of the season.
