Sean Payton's bringing back a familiar face.
The Denver Broncos are expected to hire John Morton as pass-game coordinator, according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. It's a familiar role for Morton, who held that same title in Denver from 2023-2024 before joining the Detroit Lions as their offensive coordinator in 2025.
After being fired by the Lions, Morton returned to the Broncos as a consultant for the 2025 playoffs. He's now back on the coaching staff in a full-time role. Denver previously lost passing game specialist Zack Grossi to the Baltimore Ravens. Payton's staff now appears to be nearly set ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Broncos coaching staff changes
- OC: Davis Webb (replaced Joe Lombardi — fired)
- QBs: Logan Kilgore (replaced Webb — promoted)
- WRs: Ronald Curry (replaced Keary Colbert — fired)
- DBs: Doug Belk (replaced Jim Leonhard; joined Bills)
- CBs: Open (Addison Lynch — fired)
- PGC: John Morton (ex-passing game specialist Zack Grossi joined Ravens)
- Senior assistant: Open (Pete Carmichael joined Bills)
Last year, Payton announced his finalized 2025 coaching staff in March. There might still be a few more changes still to come over the next few weeks.
