Hull FC (0) 6
Try: Hill Goal: Pryce
Wigan Warriors cruised past Hull FC to claim a second successive win at the start of the 2026 Super League season in a dominant display at the Brick Community Stadium.
The home side raced into a 24-point lead at the break, scoring four unanswered tries, as their bid to regain the Super League title from Hull KR continues to take shape.
Sam Walters, Zach Eckersley, Sam Eseh and Jai Field all crossed to effectively put the result beyond doubt before half-time.
Hull failed to back up their victory over new boys Bradford Bulls in a disappointing performance as tries from Bevan French, and a second from Field, after the break added further gloss to Warriors' win before Hull grabbed a late consolation through Harvie Hill.
It did not take long for Warriors to assert their dominance when a high kick to the right corner was well competed for by Eckersley and Walters was in the right place at the right time to collect and dive over from close range in the fifth minute.
Eckersley then turned from provider to scorer when he got in at the right corner following a flowing Warriors move as Hull struggled to cope with the hosts' blistering start.
Full-back Field then thought he had got in on the act - breaking through a loose Hull tackle - to dart over before the quarter-hour mark but Hull received a reprieve when video referee Aaron Moore disallowed the try as Liam Farrell was pulled up for an obstruction on Will Pryce.
The visitors then became the architects of their own downfall when Harvey Barron dropped the ball in front of his own posts, allowing ex-Hull loanee Eseh to pounce and dive over from close in.
A beautiful sidestep from Field created a huge gap in the Black and Whites' back field before crawling over for Wigan's fourth try.
Within four minutes of the restart, French squirmed through a limp challenge on the right edge to dive over in clinical and trademark fashion and Adam Keighran comfortably slotted the extras.
Matt Peet's side did not take their foot off the gas despite their huge advantage and Liam Marshall looked to find captain Farrell - who would have had a walk-in - but the ball was well intercepted by Arthur Romano.
Hull's Liam Knight was sent to the bin with 10 minutes remaining for a dangerous challenge and Warriors grabbed their sixth try of the night immediately after when Keighran juggled the ball to Field, who dived over for his second.
The match became 12-a-side soon after when Keighran received a yellow card for a late shot on Pryce and ex-Wigan prop Hill grabbed his first try for his new club to put a blot on Warriors' clean sheet.
The match ended on a sour note when Pryce suffered what looked like a serious knee injury as he was helped off the field.
'We're not getting carried away' - Peet
Wigan coach Matt Peet told Sky Sports:
"Pleased with the result and aspects of the performance. [We] could certainly have been better, and we will be, but I certainly would have taken that on the way here.
"We did some good things. It's important not to get carried away but there were some good signs, both sides of the ball, particularly in the first half.
"I thought we could have finished the game a bit better, just a little bit more discipline and regarding turnovers. Those are the only things I'm looking at tomorrow morning."
'We just weren't up to it' - Cartwright
Hull FC coach John Cartwright told BBC Radio Humberside:
"We were up against it from the word go. They were very good and we weren't so good.
"Right from the kick-off I think they rolled down the field too easy. I take responsibility for that as much as the players. For whatever reason, we just weren't up to it."
On Liam Knight's yellow card: "It was just plain dumb, stupid. I'll address that with Liam. On the dumb scale, it's probably a 10 [out of 10]."
On Will Pryce's injury: "[The] Doctor's had a look at him. It's more hopeful at the moment that it's not serious but it's way too early. We'll get some scans going and we'll see from there."
