The United States and Canada will meet in the men's hockey gold-medal game Sunday, bringing one of the greatest rivalries in international sports to the Olympic finals for just the second time.

Canada faced the tougher of the two semifinal opponents, outlasting Finland in a 3-2 thriller, while the United States breezed past Slovakia 6-2 to set up an all-North American final.

For the first time since 2014, NHL players are allowed to participate in ice hockey at the Winter Olympics, placing a few high-profile Connecticut connections on the ice, while a couple of Nutmeg State natives hold administrative and medical roles.

Center Tage Thompson, who scored a goal in Team USA's semifinal rout, was raised in Orange and spent two seasons at UConn, Canada's Devon Toews also attended college in the state at Quinnipiac, and American forward JT Miller previously played for the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Connecticut Whale. Meanwhile, Trumbull native and former NHL star Chris Drury is serving as the team's assistant general manager, while Hamden's Chris Scoppeto serves as the equipment manager.

Sunday's action from Milan will begin at 8:10 a.m. ET and will air on NBC. The gold-medal game can also be streamed on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com. For Canadian audiences, the game will be broadcast on CBC, CBC Gem and TSN, among other networks.

The early-morning start has led several Connecticut bars and restaurants to adjust their opening times for the Olympic action. Among other establishments, BADSONS Beer Co. in Derby will open at 7:30 a.m. ET to air the game.
