Roseau junior Jordan Borowicz scores 70 points in a game while passing 3,000 career points

Feb. 18—ROSEAU, Minn. — Early in the first half of Roseau's boys basketball game against Warroad on Tuesday night, junior Jordan Borowicz passed 3,000 career points.

The Rams called a timeout and the rare milestone was recognized by an announcer.

Hopefully nobody left early thinking the show was over.

Borowicz finished the game with 70 points, including a remarkable 49 in the second half. According to Minnesota State High School League records, it's the highest single-game output in more than a decade in Minnesota boys basketball. It's tied for the fourth-highest total in state history.

Cash Eggleston of Minnesota Transitions Charter School of Minneapolis is credited with a state record of 90 points in a game in 2005.

In Roseau's 86-78 home win over Warroad, Borowicz shot 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and was 20-for-24 from the foul line. He also added 13 rebounds.

Borowicz didn't catch fire early. Warroad led by double digits in the early moments of the game and led 32-28 at halftime.

"We knew going in it was going to be a tough game against our rivals," Borowicz said. "We knew we needed to play better at halftime. I was trying to get to the hoop and draw fouls."

Roseau's scoreboard includes individual scoring, so the home crowd could sense the performance was becoming special.

"Out of halftime, we were on a hot streak and I scored like 15 straight to get to 40 points with 15 minutes left in the game," said Borowicz, who had 21 points at halftime. "At that point, I felt like I could do something special."

The 5-foot-11 point guard broke his own school record of 57 points.

"I wasn't looking at the scoreboard most of the game, so it wasn't until the last quarter of the game where I realized this could be pretty incredible," Roseau coach Ryan De Bock said. "It wasn't like he was taking the ball and shooting every time. We were moving the ball okay but when it got back to him, he had his opportunities."

Borowicz entered the Warroad game 10 points shy of 3,000. The Rams have three regular season games remaining and at least one postseason game.

Jordan's next milestones are passing family members' scoring marks.

Both of his parents and all three sisters reached 1,000 career prep points. Jordan passed 2,000 career points as a sophomore.

Kiley, the oldest sister, scored over 3,200 points in her career at Roseau. Former UND standout guard Kacie put up over 3,300 career points, and Katie, who played at Minnesota, finished with over 2,000.
