The assistant coach of Egyptian club Pyramids FC, Mohamed Nagy "Gedo", has identified three teams he sees as the main contenders for the CAF Champions League crown this season.
Al Ahly leads, followed by Pyramids and Al Hilal
Speaking to MBC Masr, the former Egypt international ranked Al Ahly as the number one favorite to lift the trophy. He then named Pyramids FC as the second most serious contender, before mentioning Sudan’s Al Hilal in third place.
Gedo emphasized that Pyramids are having a strong and competitive season on all fronts. According to him, the team is among the tournament’s top performers, both defensively and offensively, boosting their continental ambitions.
He also stressed the major difference between the group stage and the knockout rounds, with the latter demanding more focus, tactical discipline, and clinical finishing in decisive moments. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome the quarter-final hurdle.
As a reminder, Al Ahly will face Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the quarter-finals, while Pyramids will take on Morocco’s AS FAR in a clash that echoes their battle in last season’s edition.
